Seeking a Department Chair for

Developmental Mathematics

South Texas College (STC) is seeking an energetic, committed, and results-oriented Chair to lead its Developmental Mathematics Department of over 20 full-time instructors.  This department, one of four in a centralized developmental division, serves over 3700 students.  

Our five campuses are located throughout a two-county area and currently serve over 18,000 students.   Newly constructed and remodeled facilities offer classroom technology and computer-aided instructional labs. STC is located in the Rio Grande Valley where we enjoy subtropical weather located an hour from South Padre Island.  The region is one of the fastest growing with a vigorous economy, desirable quality of life, and low cost of living.

• Have a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to serving developmental students;
• Provide the vision and leadership for improving the curricula, instructional strategies, and student success as measured by student learning outcomes;
• Demonstrate the ability to involve the department in planning and evaluating its program and in identifying new strategies to improve student success;
• Foster a collaborative working environment among faculty, staff, and administration.
• Support the department’s efforts in completing and maintaining NADE certification;
• Demonstrate effective organizational skills for tasks such as scheduling, purchasing, budgeting, ordering textbooks, and completing reports.
• Meet the qualifications of a faculty member within the department.
